Cleaning Crystals
Most crystals can be cleaned by rinsing them under running water when bringing them into your home. This is also how you can clean crystals before wearing them or using them in crystal bottles.
This type of cleaning cleanses them physically and energetically.
Can all crystals be cleaned with water?
No. There are crystals that are soluble in water and therefore need to be cleaned using other methods. Examples of such crystals are selenite, pyrite, malachite, turquoise, and others. Additionally, we do not clean geodes with water.
What is the best method for energetically cleansing crystals?
There are several methods for cleansing crystals:
Running water - one method is to hold the crystal under running water for a few minutes while thinking as little as possible. This way, the crystal is cleansed and you avoid filling it with your own problems. Take your time and make this process a meditation for yourself.
Cleansing in still water - you can soak crystals overnight in a glass of water. This way, the energies absorbed by the crystal dissolve in the water. Water is excellent for transforming emotions. Some people also add crystal salt to the water, which absorbs negative energies. However, be cautious with salt, as an excessive amount can have a negative effect on the crystal, both energetically and physically. Pay attention to some crystals that are sensitive to salt, such as fluorite and carnelian, among others, which should not be soaked in saltwater.
Dry cleansing with salt - place the crystal on a clean surface (a small plate, tray, etc.) and put a few crystals of salt next to it. Do not use too much salt. My suggestion is also to avoid physical contact between the salt and the crystal.
Dry cleansing with a candle - place a tea candle next to the crystal and wait for it to burn out. The element of fire burns away any negative energies absorbed by the crystal. Handle fire with care and do not leave candles unattended.
Sun cleansing - cleansing with sunlight also charges the crystal. Leave the crystal in sunlight so that its fiery energy can burn away anything negative. However, not all crystals are suitable for exposure to the energy of fire. Also, be cautious with direct exposure to sunlight to avoid damaging the crystals.
Cleansing with incense - Palo Santo is one type of incense that is effective for energetically cleansing crystals. Sage incense is also a popular and effective cleanser for crystals, as well as for spaces and auras.
Cleansing with symbols - you can place crystals overnight on a symbol that transforms energies. Various symbols from different traditions can be used for this purpose, such as the Flower of Life, Chakana, Sri Yantra, and others.
Which cleansing method you choose depends on you and your crystal - it's best to follow your intuition. Try to sense which method will be the most suitable, or you can even "ask the crystal" which element of cleansing will be most appropriate (water, air (smoke), fire (sun, candle), or earth (salt, symbols)).
How to know, when it is time to cleanse a crystal?
When it's new, you can cleanse it after someone else has held it. Cleanse it before using it for energy work, meditation, or any other purpose. It's also a good idea to cleanse crystals regularly, especially if you use them frequently or feel that their energy is heavy or stagnant. Trust your intuition and cleanse crystals whenever you feel it's necessary.
Interesting fact: Citrine is a crystal that does not require cleaning.
